The Day Trip to Saranda and Butrint National Park from Corfu is your ticket to step beyond Greece for a taste of Albania’s coast and ancient wonders, anchoring you back to Corfu just in time for an evening stroll along the Liston.

Why Take This Day Trip from Corfu?

Corfu, Greece, sits almost within arm’s reach of Albania. Between the olive groves of the island and the mountains just across the water, this tour lets you combine classic Corfiot mornings with ancient history and lively culture in a single, curated cross-border journey.

What to Expect: Crossing Borders, Changing Cultures

Your adventure starts bright and early, with a boat transfer from Corfu whisking you over the strait to bustling Saranda. It’s a journey through sparkling Ionian waters, with shifting views of the Greek and Albanian coasts—a little salt in the air, a sense of anticipation as new sights come into view.

Saranda: A Modern Albanian Seaside

Once ashore in Saranda, expect a town that blends beach cafés, leafy boulevards, and lively street life. There’s time to wander at your own pace, where you can shop, pause for a coffee, or stroll along the seafront promenade. The relaxed pace means you soak up an authentic corner of Albanian Riviera life before heading onward to history-laden Butrint.

Butrint National Park: Layers of the Ancient World

A highlight of the Day Trip to Saranda and Butrint National Park from Corfu is a guided tour (if selected) of the ancient city of Butrint, a UNESCO-listed site where Roman, Greek, Venetian, and Byzantine echoes ring among stone walls and aquamarine waters. The ruins are framed by lush forests and glimpses of mountains above—this is where millennia-old amphitheatres meet the chorus of living nature.

Buffet Lunch with a Sea View

Depending on your tour option, lunch is served in a local restaurant with sweeping sea views—a generous buffet of local flavors. It’s an easy way to refuel, relax, and chat with fellow travelers while looking back across the water toward Corfu. (Please note, drinks at lunch are not included.)

“It is a really good activity to get a fell of Saranda and Albania. Our guide, Laurie (i am not sure I am spelling her name right) was so kind and knowledgeable, she was a delight. Although we got a little confused at the beginning of the day, to find the meeting point with the cruise crew and we got lost in the port, overall the experience was nice and we really got a lot of it.”

“It was a nice day out with plenty of free time in Saranda the only thing we found there was a long wait to board the ferry in Corfu and it was very hot but on the whole it was good value”

“We really enjoyed the trip! It was well organized and pre-communication details were helpful. We appreciated that we went to Butrint first. The archaeological site was impressive and our guide was knowledgeable and did a great job. The guided tour was done at a good pace. The lunch afterwards was very nice and not rushed. Trip to Saranda was nice. It's a typical port town ... lots of restaurants and shops. The staff with the tour group were all very pleasant. Our only suggestions include having the tour guide speak more loudly. He was difficult to hear if you weren't right in front and that can be difficult to do with a large group. Finally, AC on the bus was not very cool and imagine it could be a bit warm in the heat of the summer.”

“This was an excellent trip. The archaeological remains at Burintha were amazing and the surrounding scenery very beautiful. Both guides were very helpful and very attentive to make sure everyone was ok and to ask if we needed anything. The tour guide at the remains was very knowledgeable. The lunch was good and plenty of it. My only comment is that I was e mailed by Ionian Cruises and asked to download our boarding cards. This wasn't not possible . We went to the port in the morning and the guide met us with boarding cards so do not worry about this. It would be helpful if the instructions explained this was what would happen. Otherwise an excellent trip. Thank you.”

“Great value for money! We were very well taken care of by our guides. They were kind, helpful and very informative. There were interesting lectures in English, French and German. We took the Butrint option and it made the whole thing amazing. The archeological park is beautiful, interesting and mysterious. The lunch was great and the tavern was very pleasant. Would do it again!”

“This was a great day's excursion. We were very well taken care of by our guides. The archeological park was beautiful to stroll around in. The lunch was very good. The guides gave a lot of information about the area as well as the park.”

“We had a brilliant day in Butrint and Saranda. our guides were excellent providing interesting commentary throughout our visit. We would have liked to have spent a little more time in Butrint. We were only given 15mins in the museum which wasn't enough time to look at all the fascinating artifacts found on site. After lunch we went back to Saranda where we were given 2hrs free time which was far too much. I would have preferred only 1½hrs and more time in Butrint. However the day was amazing value for money. I highly recommend it for a wonderful day out to Albania.”

A AlessiaMay 2026

“We chose the Butrint option and honestly it made the whole thing so worth it. Our guide was lovely and very informative. I would highly recommend this activity but with two things to bear in mind. First, the provider was running to cruises in the day and our qr code got accepted for the wrong cruise, so definitely check you're at the right place! Second, there were additional port fees which honestly should have just been added to the activity cost. Other than that, definitely worth the trip.”
