Villa Acaste: A Restful Retreat Among Chalikounas’ Olive Groves

If you’re looking for an undisturbed corner of Corfu, Greece, where nature still holds sway and summer days invite long swims and leisurely countryside strolls, Villa Acaste Corfu (Almyra Villas Chalikounas) offers just the right setting. This accommodation is a modern villa rental tucked among centuries-old olive trees and scented wildflowers, a short way from the gentle curve of Chalikounas Beach.

The Chalikounas Setting: Wide Skies and West Coast Sands

Chalikounas is a quieter stretch of Corfu’s southwest coast, known for its sweeping sands, lagoon views, and understated charm. From the villa, evenings bring the distant hum of crickets and dramatic sunset skies over the Ionian Sea. Days here flow with a slower pace—think cool morning walks through pine shade, the warmth of the afternoon building, and the soft sound of church bells drifting from neighboring villages.

An Inviting Home for Families or Friends

Villa Acaste makes a fine base for up to eight people seeking both comfort and a sense of local flavor. The villa is contemporary yet unobtrusive, surrounded by greenery. Inside, large windows bring in the morning light, while wide terraces invite you to linger outdoors, coffee in hand or perhaps a carafe of local white later in the day.

  • Private swimming pool for cooling off under the Corfu sun
  • Spacious garden areas ideal for children’s games, lazy reading, or al fresco dining
  • Open-plan living spaces designed for both relaxation and gathering together

Local Flavors and Beach Cafés

One of the pleasures of staying in the Chalikounas region is discovering simple, genuine tavernas and cafés scattered along the beach road or tucked in nearby villages. Fresh seafood, home-made pies, and crisp Greek salads come alive under the shade of grapevine pergolas. The catch of the day or a plate of grilled vegetables tastes all the better after a swim in saltwater or a morning exploring village lanes.

Things to Do in Chalikounas and Beyond

  • Chalikounas Beach: A long, sandy stretch where the breeze makes for gentle afternoons and water sports are available for those so inclined.
  • Lake Korission: Just behind the dunes, this protected lagoon is a haven for birdlife and a lovely spot for quiet walks.
  • Corfu Old Town: A scenic drive takes you to the island’s Venetian heart, ideal for day trips filled with history and shopping.

Nature lovers may want to explore the cedar forest south of the villa, while the bold can try a windsurfing lesson when the sea picks up a bit of energy. Many guests enjoy simply moving between the private pool and the sea, timing their outings with the changing light and temperature.

Family-Friendly and Romantic

Families will appreciate the spacious layout, private grounds, and easygoing pace around Chalikounas. For couples or small groups of friends, the softness of Corfu’s evenings—think drifting scent of pine and olive, quiet meals beneath the stars—brings its own kind of romance.

Nearby Corfu Attractions and Practicalities

While Chalikounas feels a world apart from the bustle, Corfu’s noted attractions—historic sites, mountain villages, and local festivals—are never far by car. For a taste of everyday island life, try the local markets in Messongi or visit a Sunday service at a nearby village church.

“We stayed in villa Acaste for 5 nights in August 2020. The villa is absolutely gorgeous - spacious, modern, sparklingly clean with gorgeous outdoor spaces, including an amazing pool. Konstantina of Al Myra Villas is a superb host. She greeted us with fresh meats and cheeses and had water, wine, bread and snacks already in the fridge for us. She also made a point of calling in to say goodbye on our last day. The location is quiet and does require a car. There’s a taverna 2 minutes drive away which served our needs most nights but if you don’t mind driving a little further there’s plenty of options within 10 - 15 minutes. Perfect for what we wanted at the time and I’d like to think we’ll make it back in the future.”
