The television series did not use Corfu Town merely for establishing shots. Streets, gardens, façades and even the Old Fortress moat were recast as working locations inside individual scenes. This private two-hour walk retraces those production choices and explains what the camera changed.

The route links recognisable streets to their altered appearance during production.

Arrival scenes began at a defensive moat

The group starts by the Schulenburg statue in front of the Old Fortress. Nearby, the moat represented the port where the on-screen family arrived. Boschetto Gardens adds a different layer: bronze busts of Gerald and Lawrence Durrell connect the adaptation to the two writers whose books and lives preceded it. The tour is about the series, but it should not collapse those biographies into their fictional versions.

A palace became a bank; Tenedos became a market

The grand nineteenth-century palace facing Spianada supplied the exterior for a bank scene. In Tenedos, production dressed an existing neighbourhood as a complete local market. Campiello contributes Kokkini’s arch and a Venetian well, while Town Hall Square and the Liston widen the visual vocabulary. The interest lies in learning why a location suited a scene—not in expecting sets or props to remain.

Familiar public spaces still operate normally after filming; the guide supplies the scene-specific context.

This is a private location walk, not a studio tour

The product is offered in English and Spanish and is marked wheelchair accessible. Because old-town paving, kerbs and route diversions can change the practical experience, wheelchair users should confirm the exact step-free path before booking. Guiding and fees are included; meals, drinks and personal purchases are not. The current review base is small and mixed, so the itinerary itself is better evidence than the headline rating.

The tour revisits real public lanes; it does not enter a dedicated Durrells studio or exhibition.
