About this tour

Crossing Borders: The From Corfu: Albanian Adventure Day Trip

Among the many things that make Corfu, Greece a traveller’s favourite are the chances to explore not just its olive-green hills and sun-kissed shores, but also its proximity to other cultures just across the Ionian Sea. For those with a taste for adventure, the From Corfu: Albanian Adventure Day Trip offers a fascinating journey beyond the familiar—right across the water to Albania’s vibrant town of Sarandë and, optionally, the evocative ruins of Butrint National Park.

A Morning at the Corfu Port

The day starts as the soft Corfiot morning light drifts over the harbour, painting pastel tones across old walls and anchored ferries. Travellers gather at the port, an unmistakable energy building as different languages mingle on the breeze. It’s a perfect scene: tourists and locals alike sharing thick Greek coffee in waterside cafés, with the anticipation of a new country just a short boat ride away.

Fast Ferry Across the Ionian

As the ferry pulls out, the salt air quickens every sense. The turquoise channel to Albania narrows, making the 10-hour excursion seem more like a neighbourly call than a distant journey. This crossing—already a highlight for many—offers views of Corfu’s green coastline dropping away as Albania’s rugged contours rise in the east.

Touching Down in Sarandë

After arrival in Sarandë, you can feel the difference immediately. Sarandë’s lively promenade is bracketed by hills and the open Adriatic, with beach umbrellas brightening its pebbly shore. Cafés hum with life; the scent of grilled seafood drifts from waterside tavernas. You’ll have several hours here, perhaps enough to stroll beneath palm trees, sample the coffee or take in the local rhythm along the water’s edge.

Optional: Ancient Echoes at Butrint National Park

If you choose the enhanced option, your visit takes you deeper into the history and culture of Albania. Ancient Butrint, set among wetlands and eucalyptus groves, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that tells stories from the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans. Guided tours bring centuries-old amphitheatres and basilicas to life—all in the cooling shade of pines. The walk to the high viewpoint rewards with calming views over the blue lagoon and distant mountains.

Local Flavours and Lunch Break

For those who opt in, lunch is served as part of the day. Albanian cuisine bridges Mediterranean and Balkan influences; don’t miss local wine, fresh bread, and plates of grilled meats and garden salads. Reviewers frequently mention the enjoyable lunch and the relaxed setting that gives a taste of regional hospitality.

Organised Simplicity, with Room for Individual Discovery

This Albanian Adventure Day Trip from Corfu is well organised, balancing structure with opportunities to wander. Whether with a guide or through an optional audio guide, you can move at your pace, exploring ruins or soaking up the atmosphere of Sarandë. The return ferry ride is a peaceful close, often with conversations and new friendships sparked by the day’s shared experience.

“Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Fast ferry was just that (usually they aren’t ) Our guide was very informative about the history and the current status of the area I include the Butrint tour with lunch. Both also being excellent. Excellent value for money”

G GeromeMay 2026

“Long day trip with lots of unavoidable line ups at the border crossings / ports but well done and Butrint was the highlight. The Sarandë self guided tour portion of the trip could have been shorter by 30-60 min.”

“A brilliant well organised trip from as soon as we were picked up right to when we were dropped off. Both the guide in Albania and the Ionians ferry rep were both amazing, extremely knowledgable and friendly. Butrint tour was amazing, really interesting and our guide was so knowledgeable and gave us an amazing insight into the long and fascinating history of the site. Well worth the time invested in the tour. We had lunch at the restaurant 100yds away, included in the trip price, which was plentiful and very tasty washed down with very reasonably priced Albanian beer. We then took the coach Sandara and had just short of 2 hours free time to spend. We bought some trinkets and visited a cafe with blue parasols at the marina recommended by the guides. I tried the Tres Leche Cake also suggested which was lovely and I highly recommend it myself if you are a cake fan. Boat trip and coach back to hotel with whole tour taking 12 hours. All in all an amazing, thoroughly enjoyable day”

“Well organised trip we had pick up from the hotel that took us to the port easy to get through at the port to get on our boat. Once we were there we had free time to explore and do what we wanted and then back to boat”

“Took this trip yesterday with collection from Hotel, Butrint visit (inc Lunch) plus free time in Sarande - it was an exhausting day but I wouldnt change it for the world! I’m staying in the very south of Corfu, but was picked up 2mins walk from my accommodation. Transfer 2Hrs to Port. Ferry at 9am - 1Hr. Straight to Coach for 30min drive to Butrint which was stunning! Lunch was basic but filling - Salad starter + Chicken with Rice for main - NOTE// Drinks excluded. Return to Sarande with 1.5Hrs free time before Ferry departure 3pm local Albania time (it’s 1 hour behind Greece!). Return crossing 90mins. The Guide was incredibly informative but at times it t was a little overpowering - nice to just sit back and enjoy the amazing scenery. The Guided Tour of Butrint was also a bit rushed, with stops at only the most fundamental points on the Guide Map - a few times I wandered off to see things which the group walked straight past. Definitely recommended! Great price too!”
