Corfu SunGate Hotel

“What a great time we had at the Sungate Hotel. It's off the main strip so in a quieter area of Sidari. It is close to the Canal D'Amour which is a beautiful place to visit. The atmosphere at the hotel is fabulous both during the day and at night. Ludo ( Mr Entertainment) keeps everybody occupied with darts, table tennis, beer pong and water polo during the day - all the dads loved the water polo. and got very competitive which was hilarious to watch. At night there were quizzes, bingo and singing. Everybody was encouraged to join in but there was no pressure if you didn't want to - it was a pleasure to be included and enjoyed it so much. Our room was cleaned daily and the bathroom was more than big enough with a modern shower cubicle. Tea and coffee was included in the room and a couple of small bottles of water to get you started, I only drink mint tea and was given some in the restaurant for the room. Towels were changed every couple of days and the room was always left clean and tidy. Air con and safe were included in the price of the room. The room overlooked some of the new swim up rooms which looked very nice. We usually went down to the pool at about 10am and we never once had a problem getting a sunbed. If the wooden ones were in use, there were some older metal framed ones available and a cushion was provided to use with them. There was only 1 day that we used a metal framed one. You can use hotel swimming towels but we took our own. Food was fantastic. It really fabulous. I loved the different salads that were available lunch and dinner and there was a great selection of main courses available which differed daily. There were plenty of desserts available. The snack bar opened 10 - 12 and 4-6 daily. They offered burgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, wraps, toasties, and fruit salads. Fruit salads were lovely and everything is made to order so there is a little wait sometimes but this wasn't a problem. All inclusive drinks were great with premuim brands available as well as local brands. Cocktails had a good varied range with something from everyone. Lots of non alcoholic drinks available including water. Icecream available all day and evening - you help yourself - and can choose from banana, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate and pistachio. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and they're always friendly making the stay fabulous! Thank you for a fantastic stay we will definitely return!”

“A lovely hotel with some disappointing issues We stayed at this hotel in mid-July as a group of three 18-year-old girls. Overall, we had a good holiday and would recommend the hotel if you're looking for a cheaper all-inclusive break, but there were definitely some things that stopped it from feeling like a 4-star hotel. The food was great, and the snack bar, ignoring the major hygiene issues, was one of our favourite things about the hotel as the food was delicious. The staff were also helpful when it came to letting us know which food was vegetarian, which we really appreciated. The only negative about the food would be how similar it was everyday but it is to be expected with an all inclusive. We did ask for a packed lunch one day, but unfortunately this was very disappointing and nowhere near as good as the food served at the hotel. The choice of all-inclusive cocktails was brilliant, and unlike some all-inclusive hotels, you could actually taste the spirits! The restaurant, bar and pool areas were all very pretty, and the outside of the rooms looked lovely too. Unfortunately, the room itself was a big disappointment. The shower was extremely small and flooded the bathroom floor every time we used it. There was also a large hole in the bathroom wall, and our balcony had a horrible view overlooking a pile of rubbish. We did complain about this to a member of reception staff, who came to look at our room. However, we were extremely disappointed by their response. They said, "I don't know what you want me to do about this, I don't care," before abruptly walking out of the room. This was particularly frustrating as we weren't expecting anything unreasonable, but simply wanted our concerns to be acknowledged. The cleaners did a good job and cleaned our room every day, which we appreciated. However, they would sometimes open the door with very little warning. On one occasion we were still resting in the room when they came in, so a little more warning would have made us feel more comfortable. It would of been good if they provided a sign like most hotel to put on the door to let cleaners know if you are in your room or not to prevent this from happening. The sun-beds around the pool were another major issue. People would reserve them very early in the morning despite there being a sign saying that this was not allowed, and unfortunately the staff did nothing to stop it. There was a pile of older sun-beds available for people who couldn't get one around the pool, but these were uncomfortable and we often had to squeeze them into small gaps, sometimes creating an obstacle for people trying to walk past. The hotel entertainment during the day included activities like aqua aerobics, water polo and table tennis however not many people joined and the music from the aerobics was slightly frustrating when trying to rest by the pool but it was good fun to join in with. In the evening there was often live music and one night the was Greek Dancing which was great to join in with so I would advise stopping in to take part. As a group of young girls, we felt very safe in the area, which was really important to us. The main strip was around a 15-minute walk away and had a decent nightlife. There was a nightclub open on certain nights, although it wasn't particularly busy when we visited. The beach was lovely, but I would definitely recommend booking a boat trip if you visit. We got to see some of the nicest beaches in the area and experience the crystal-clear sea, which was one of the highlights of our trip. We also visited Aqualand Water Park, which wasn't too far away and was one of my favourite days of the holiday. The Old Town is also definitely worth visiting. One thing to be aware of when booking through Jet2 is the additional tourist tax. We were charged €10 per night per room, despite Jet2 stating that it would be €5. We were told this was because the hotel claims to be a 4-star property, so definitely factor this extra cost into your budget when booking.”

“This hotel is fun and entertaining for all. The pool is clean, the rooms are cleaned daily and the staff are very helpful and welcoming. The entertainment staff consists of 1 person but he is the nicest and funniest person you could ever meet. LUDO is his name and you could not ask for anyone better. Not much around locally within a 10-20 minute walk then it's the night life with a couple of shops around. 1 place you must visit is Canal D Amour it is beautiful to look swim and if willing jump from the cliffs into the sea. Hope you have a great holiday as its what you make of it that matters.”

“Was ok, just didn't meet what we expected. There was a small pool with beds very close together. Eating area was ok, food selection was good with the amazing salads but mediocre tray baked wholesale selections with not too many local options. Fruit juices, hot drinks and fizzy drinks were just terrible, nothing fresh and very much "just add water" options. The bar man was always happy although the seating area in the bar wasnt very welcoming in appearance. What was disappointing was one of the cleaners interrupted us twice by using their own key to enter our room, once at 9am when we're were sleeping and then almost 2 hours before our arranged late check out whilst my partner was in the shower and I was completely naked getting changed, both times just to ask us to leave her some money. What was also disappointing was when we checked out some 15 minutes before we were told we could have the room up until was that we should have checked out at 11 am and that the staff were looking for us. I did say that we wanted the room for longer but we were told it wasn't possible and 4pm was the latest we could stay to. Obviously there is some level of communication breakdown and we were left feeling like we'd done something wrong. Sad end to a lovely and very romantic break. Sidari is a beautiful place and this hotel has scope to be better. Well placed to visit Canal D'Amour and surrounded by some really nice little place to eat and drink.”
