About this place

Calypso Restaurant Beach Bar: Seaside Flavours in Sidari, Corfu

From the moment you set foot near the golden arc of Sidari’s main beach, the easy-going sounds of laughter, shaded by native tamarisk trees and the busy clink of glasses, seem to guide you naturally towards Calypso Restaurant Beach Bar. This friendly spot is as much a part of Sidari’s laid-back landscape as the soft waves sliding onto the sand or the pastel-washed hues of the Ionian dusk. For those searching for authentic things to do in Corfu, a relaxed meal by the sea is essential—and Calypso delivers exactly that, with Corfiot warmth and flavour.

Sea Breezes and Summer Light

At Calypso, the lines between indoor and outdoor blur. Most tables spill out towards the beach, sheltered with woven canopies to let the salty breeze drift across plates and laughter alike. The views stretch over Sidari’s glimmering bay, with the craggy backdrop of the coastal cliffs glowing golden as the sun moves westward. Light bounces softly off glass carafes of chilled local wine, and the Mediterranean air is heavy with pine and oregano.

Flavours of Corfu on Your Plate

The kitchen at Calypso Restaurant Beach Bar focuses on quality local produce, with plenty of classic Greek flavours and a few dishes unique to Corfu. It’s a natural gathering place for families, couples, and friends escaping the summer heat. Expect fresh salads with pomegranate seeds and creamy feta, grilled seafood straight from nearby boats, and traditional Corfiot specialities. The sofrito (beef in white wine and garlic) and crispy bourdeto (spicy fish stew) often steal the show, while simple platters of fried calamari and lemon are always popular between dips in the sea.

Casual Coffee, Sun-Dappled Cocktails

Calypso is not only about long lunches and lazy dinners. Mornings begin quietly here, with the gentle chime of church bells from Sidari village and the scent of strong Greek coffee brewing. Later in the day, colourful cocktails made with local kumquat liqueur and fresh citrus drift from table to table—perfect refreshment after sunbathing or a swim. The bar carries a thoughtful selection of local and international beers and a Greek-focused wine list that surprises with crisp, regional whites and characterful reds.

Atmosphere: Friendly and Relaxed

The staff at Calypso bring Corfiot hospitality to every table. Conversation flows easily, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning regular from one of the hotels in Corfu nearby. The pace is unhurried, the smiles genuine, and the air of welcome lingers—even as evening falls and beachgoers trade sun hats for linen shirts and gentle sea breezes turn cool.

“We had a drink here in the afternoon. Our waitstaff was quite grumpy. The coffee was actually good. We ordered fresh orange and you could smell that it wasn't 100% fresh orange juice. Juice from a carton was definitely added. We asked two different people about this and they both lied completely to our faces. Additionally, he charged us 5 euros. Absurd. Not recommended.”
